The Sutton is a shell chair that looks like furniture from both sides. The inner face of the seat and back is upholstered in pale grey; the outer face is a continuous light oak veneer, so the back of the chair, which is what most of the room sees, reads as clean timber rather than stapled fabric.
Construction. Molded plywood shell with the veneer laid on the outside and a foam-and-cover inner shell fixed over it. The shell bolts to a solid hardwood leg frame with threaded inserts, so the legs can be tightened or replaced over the life of the chair. The four legs splay slightly for stability on tiled floors.
Where it works. Brunch restaurants, hotel all-day dining, office cafeterias and bright Scandinavian-style rooms. The rounded back has no corners to catch on table edges and is easy to wipe down between seatings.
Options. Oak, ash or walnut veneer outer; inner in contract vinyl, leather or fabric; natural, light or dark leg finish. A matching counter stool on the same shell is possible on request. Light colors on the seat show more wear, so in high-turn rooms we usually suggest a mid-tone vinyl with a cleanable finish.
