FAQ
Who makes Chair Foundry chairs?
Chair Foundry is a line by EASEN Commercial Furniture. Every chair and stool is made to order in our own production base in Lecong, Foshan, China, one of the largest furniture manufacturing and trading centers in the world, and shipped direct to you. There is no US warehouse and no middle distributor; you deal with the people who draw and build the chairs.
What is the standard seat height for a restaurant chair?
Most restaurant dining chairs have a seat height of about 18 in (46 cm), within a typical range of 17-19 in (43-48 cm), to suit a table at 28-30 in (71-76 cm). The rule of thumb is 10-12 in (25-30 cm) between the top of the seat and the top of the table. We confirm the seat height on every shop drawing against your actual table.
What is the difference between bar height and counter height stools?
Counter stools have a seat height of about 24-26 in (61-66 cm) and serve surfaces around 36 in (91 cm) high. Bar stools have a seat height of about 28-30 in (71-76 cm) for bars at 40-42 in (102-107 cm). Measure your surface before ordering; we make every stool model in both heights and can build to a custom height.
How many chairs can you make, and what is the minimum order?
We typically supply orders from about 40 chairs up to several hundred per project, and we can mix chair and stool models in one shipment. Minimums are low for contract orders and are confirmed per design, because a chair in a stock frame with your fabric has different setup requirements than a fully custom design.
How long does production take?
Typically 30-45 days for standard designs and 45-60 days for custom work, counted from approval of shop drawings and any pre-production sample, plus sea transit. The exact schedule is confirmed in each quote, and we send production photos before packing so you are not waiting blind.
Can I use my own fabric (COM)?
Yes. We accept customer's own material (COM) and leather (COL). Send the fabric specification and we will confirm yardage per chair and whether the cloth is suitable for restaurant use. We look at abrasion rating, backing and stretch. If it is marginal, we will say so before you ship it, not after it fails.
Are your chairs fire-rated?
We specify fire-retardant foams and contract-grade fabrics to the destination market's rules on request, for example builds intended to meet California TB 117-2013. Test reports are provided for specific items when available. Requirements for restaurants vary by state and occupancy, so check with your local fire marshal and tell us what they need; we will specify to that.
What wood do you use and how are the joints made?
Frames are solid hardwood, usually ash, oak or beech depending on the model and finish, kiln-dried before machining. Joints are mortise-and-tenon or dowelled, glued under pressure, with glued-and-screwed corner blocks under the seat. Joint details appear on the shop drawing so you can review them before production.
Do you make stackable restaurant chairs?
Yes. Our steel stacking chairs stack up to eight high depending on the model, with nylon bumpers under the seat to protect finishes. Most wood dining chairs are not designed to stack, and we will not call a chair stackable unless it is designed and tested to stack safely.
Can you match chairs to my existing booths or tables?
Usually, yes. Send photos, the table height and apron depth, and a finish sample or color reference. We will match the wood stain or powder-coat color as closely as practical, show the seat and arm heights on the drawing, and confirm that armchairs slide under your tables before production.
Can I get a sample before ordering?
Yes. We can build one pre-production chair per model in your chosen finish and fabric, or send finish chips and fabric cuttings first if you only need to approve materials. Sample terms and timing are confirmed in the quote. A sample chair is the best way to check comfort, seat height and finish with your own team before committing to a full order.
How are the chairs shipped and what terms do you quote?
Chairs are export-packed in cartons, stacked or partly knocked down where the design allows, to make the best use of container space. We quote FOB, CIF or DDP on request, and every shipment comes with a packing list by model so your installer can place chairs quickly.
Which glides should I choose?
Match the glide to the floor. Nylon glides suit tile, concrete and most resilient floors. Felt or PTFE glides protect hardwood but need replacing more often. Metal glides look sharp but can mark soft floors. Tell us your floor finish and we will specify the glide; replacement glides can be shipped with the order.
Do you offer a warranty?
Warranty coverage is set per project and stated in your quote, because a chair in a 24-hour diner and the same chair in a hotel function room do very different work. We do not publish blanket warranty terms; we would rather put the real coverage in writing for your specific use.
