The Porthole is a practical café chair with one useful detail: a round hole cut through the curved plywood backrest. Staff use it to carry and position the chair with one hand, and it gives the back a recognizable look from across the room.
What you see. A rear three-quarter view on white: polished chrome tube frame with two back posts bolted to the plywood back, a round seat in black vinyl over a light-wood plywood ring, and black rubber feet.
Where it works. Cafés, bakeries, school and campus dining, staff restaurants and diners where chairs are moved, lifted onto tables at closing, and cleaned many times a day.
Construction. Chrome-plated steel tube with welded joints, molded multi-layer plywood back in a cherry or oak finish, plywood seat ring with high-resilience foam and contract vinyl, rubber or nylon feet. Whether it stacks, and how many high, is confirmed on the drawing.
Options. Frame in chrome, black or a powder-coat color; back veneer or paint; seat color and material; square-seat version.
