The Fairfax is a fully upholstered armchair with an exposed wood frame that works like a picture frame. A walnut band wraps around the outside of the back at mid-height and turns forward to form the outline of each arm, so the fabric panels sit inside the wood. Four tapered walnut legs carry the chair.
What you see. A rear three-quarter photo on white. The cream fabric has a fine horizontal texture, the panels are piped where they meet, and the walnut frame sits just proud of the upholstery so it takes the knocks when chairs are pushed against tables.
Where it works. Hotel restaurants, private dining rooms, fine dining and club dining rooms. The outer back is designed to be seen, which makes it a good chair for the middle of a room.
Construction. Solid hardwood frame with mortise-and-tenon joints, plywood back and arm forms, high-resilience foam, and a seat on a plywood pan. The wood band is joined at the back with a concealed joint.
Options. Walnut, oak or black stain; any contract fabric, vinyl or leather (COM/COL accepted); contrast piping.
